The catastrophic bushfires raging across the eastern and southern coasts of Australia have destroyed more than 46 million acres of land and claimed at least 33 lives with the death toll expected to rise. More than one billion animals, many of which are endangered species, are estimated to have also lost their lives in the flames.
The Center for Disaster Philanthropy stresses the importance of cash donations in times of disaster. You can use your donor-advised fund to give to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s Global Recovery Fund, a fund created specifically for meeting the long-term needs of disaster recovery.
To support the Australian wildfire relief efforts, you can also use your donor-advised fund to grant to the following U.S.-based charities which have Australian-based counterparts working closely with volunteers and relief workers in the affected communities.
Wildlife Warriors USA Inc.
GlobalGiving Australian Wildfire Relief Fund
The Salvation Army
The World Wildlife Fund
The U.S. St. Vincent de Paul Society
This is not a comprehensive list. You can use your donor-advised fund to grant to any 501(c)(3) public charity in the United States. While you may also grant to Australian-based organizations, Greater Horizons partners with a third-party service to conduct international due diligence which will result in extra fees.
