Multigenerational Families Encourage Philanthropy, According to Study

Charitable families and industry leaders from across the U.S. gathered in Chicago earlier this month to discuss the current philanthropic landscape at the National Forum on Family Philanthropy.

Sessions included topics on honoring family legacy, succession planning, racial equity, impact investing, and more. The conference also coincided with the release of the National Center for Family Philanthropy’s second family philanthropy study, Trends 2020.

The survey discovered several key themes from some of the country’s most generous families, including families focused on next-generation engagement. More than half of families surveyed, 61%, encourage younger generations to give back to society as a shared family value. While the study found common challenges such as differing interests and time constraints, many families successfully involve multiple generations in their philanthropy.

At Greater Horizons, we understand that giving back as a family creates a special bond and can unite generations around shared values. Our philanthropic advisors are experts in multigenerational giving and are available to work with your family to identify shared values, interests and goals to develop a roadmap for your family’s giving.
